Donate to The Bread & Butter Project this EOFY and help a refugee start a new life

May 9, 2025 | Fundraising

As the 2024-25 financial year draws to a close, we are currently seeking donations to support The Bread & Butter Project’s ongoing mission to help refugees.

Donations to our program will help shape the lives of refugees aspiring to become bakers, with our goal to provide practical support and the necessary skills to ensure that refugees arriving in Australia can become self-sufficient and positive contributors to society.

As Australia’s first social enterprise bakery, we have graduated over 100 refugees through The Bread & Butter Project program since 2013. Many of our trainees have escaped environments of political upheaval and conflict in their respective homelands – including war-torn countries such as Afghanistan, Ukraine, Iraq, and Syria.

The Bread & Butter Project plays a vital role in helping these refugees establish a new life through a TAFE-accredited traineeship and English language tutoring, while we also assist our graduates to find employment in Australia’s food services and hospitality industries upon the successful completion of their traineeship.

Now, as we seek to build a more inclusive society where refugees and their families thrive and belong, The Bread & Butter Project is urging donors to help us continue our great work in providing positive second chances for some of Australia’s newest and most disadvantaged community members.

This financial year has been a particularly tough one to navigate, given the many challenges facing food services and hospitality businesses, where rising food, rent and insurance costs are a major factor. Government and industry funding has also diminished, which has presented new challenges for our organisation.

According to The Bread & Butter Project’s Founder and Co-Chair, Paul Allam, “We have found the last 12 months to be particularly challenging, both commercially and philanthropically. To ensure our continued viability, we are relying on generous contributions from our supporters to help address current shortfalls created by tough market conditions.”

Corporate businesses, philanthropic organisations and members of the public can make tax deductible donations directly via givenow.com.au/makersofbakers.

For sizable contributions, or to discuss partnership opportunities, please contact sales@thebreadandbutterproject.com.

Thank you for your support.
