World Refugee Day 2026
This week is World Refugee Week – perhaps the most significant week on The Bread & Butter Project’s calendar.
The global theme for World Refugee Week 2026 is “Courage”, highlighting the strength, resilience, and daily bravery required by people seeking safety. Closer to home, Australia has recognised the recent arrival of our one-millionth refugee since World War II with a new postage stamp under the theme of “A Million Stories”.
At The Bread & Butter Project, we’re celebrating the 127 stories of our Refugee Training Program graduates who’ve come from 21 different countries across 4 continents, with the courage to seek safety and a new life. They’ve each faced unique struggles – but are united in their commitment to creating a more positive new chapter for themselves and their loved ones, here in Australia.
To celebrate World Refugee Week, we’ve been sharing the inspiring stories of Hellen, Jad, Rania and Nizar – 4 program graduates who have generously shared their challenges, their insights and their dreams for a better future for themselves and their families.
As the financial year draws to a close, we urge you to help give more refugees the chance to rise, by making a tax-deductible donation to train new bakers in 2026.
Your support will provide courageous people like Hellen, Jad, Rania and Nizar with opportunities, skills and experience they need to rise and rebuild their lives.
Click here to learn more about Rania and Nizar’s incredible journey – just one of Australia’s ‘1 million stories’.
